It’s been only a few days that iOS 15 is introduced to users. But we are already getting too many reports from users complaining about the long waiting time to download the latest software update file.
According to users, the new software update is taking hours of waiting time to get downloaded. There was someone who reported a whopping ‘1-day’ estimation for downloading the new iOS 15 on an iPhone.
Today, we are here to clarify a few things about the new iOS 15 software update. This should clear the doubts you have in your mind.
How much time does it take to update to iOS 15?
We have updated several iPhone models to iOS 15. Based on our experience, we can say that it takes around 30 to 45 minutes on average.
The iOS 15 update process is divided into four main parts and the waiting time for each part is as follows:
- Downloading the iOS 15 software update file should take anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes. The “preparing update” part should take around 15 to 20 minutes max.
- The “verifying update” part takes only 2 to 5 minutes to get done.
- The last stage, which is the installation part, takes around 5 to 10 minutes.
- Total time to update to iOS 15: 30 – 45 minutes
Reasons Why It Takes So Long to Update to iOS 15
Here are the main reasons why it takes so much time to update to iOS 15:
The most obvious reason of all is the internet speed. If you have a fast internet connection with a good downloading speed, then it shouldn’t take you much time to download the update. Also, we recommend you use a Wi-Fi network while updating your iPhone to iOS 15.
Fact: iOS 15 software update file is around 4.79 GB large. Therefore, you shouldn’t use your cellular data plan to download the file.
Region (Update Size)
Even your location influences the duration of the iOS 15 update. Just to remind you all Apple services are not available worldwide.
For most iPhone users, the iOS 15 software file size is 4.79 GB. But for some users, the download size is only 2.83 GB. This is because they are getting a lighter version of the update and this service is not available in every region.
The next valid factor is the iPhone model you own. If you have an older compatible iPhone model, it may consume more time to update.
Older iPhone models have slower internet download speeds and thus they take more time to update.
Available Storage Space
If you have limited storage space on your iPhone, you will have to free up storage space and offload apps. As a result, the iOS 15 software update takes more time to load.
Fact: You need at least 5GB of free storage on your iPhone to install the new iOS 15. You can check the amount of storage space available on your device by accessing Settings -> General -> iPhone Storage.
Moment of Update
As you already know we are still in the early phases of the new software update. The moment you choose to update is also very important. Since many users are currently trying to update to the new release, it is causing Apple’s servers to get overcrowded.
We recommend you download the file in the early morning. This is the time when most people are asleep and therefore, the servers are less crowded. Also, you will get enough time to complete the update.
How to avoid the iOS 15 software update waiting time?
Let’s face it; no one wants to wait for hours to update their iPhones. The good thing is that you can tap on Download and Install and let your iPhone download the software update and prepare for an update in the background. This way you don’t have to be bothered and carry on using your iPhone like you normally do.
Tip: You can also schedule an automated iOS 15 software update. This can be done during the night-time when you are asleep. However, this means that you will have to keep your device connected to the internet and charger during the night-time.
At first, go to the Settings of your iPhone and tap the option, General. From there you go to Software Update and then to Automatic Update.
You need to enable the ‘download iOS updates’ option. By doing so you are allowing your device to automatically download the new software update file.
Now ‘turn on install iOS updates’ to let your iPhone automatically install software updates overnight. You will be sent a notification before updates are installed.
The new iOS 15 software update is just out and iPhone users are overcrowding the Apple servers to update to it. We recommend you wait for some time before you update your iPhone to iOS 15.
